SACRAMENTO –  The Assembly Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee today moved to put in place important privacy guardrails on the data collected from in-vehicle cameras by approving State Senator Bob Wieckowski’s SB 346 with bipartisan support. The bill would prohibit selling the data to third parties and using it for advertising.

More cars are becoming equipped with in-vehicle cameras that record the interior of the vehicle cabin and the actions of the driver. Some analysts expect this lucrative data to be worth over $750 billion by 2030.

SACRAMENTO – A pair of bills advanced today from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, to improve Californians’ access to healthcare, both in emergency and home settings.

SACRAMENTO - Today, Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 964, the Behavioral Health Workforce Revitalization Act, passed the Assembly Higher Education Committee in an unanimous, bipartisan vote. It will now be heard in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

SB 964 increases California’s investment in its behavioral health workforce to retain workers, increase the size of the behavioral health workforce, and support behavioral health workers who are facing a significant increase in demand for services.

Sacramento, Calif. – On June 21, 2022 Senator Lena A. Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) issued the following statement after the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Public Employment and Retirement refused to allow Senate Bill 1173, The Fossil Fuel Divestment Act to have a public hearing in the committee. The bill would have significantly advanced state climate goals by requiring California’s two largest public pension funds to divest over $11 billion of fossil fuel investments by 2030.

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 1136, a measure authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) to clarify and streamline the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) process to help meet climate goals, passed the Assembly Natural Resources Committee. 

SACRAMENTO – Today, the Assembly Committee on Business and Professions passed SB 1375, a bill authored by Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) to clarify existing law that allows nurse practitioners meeting specified criteria to practice without physician supervision, including first trimester abortion care.

SACRAMENTO - Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) sent Senate Bill 357, the Safer Streets for All Act, to Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk for his action. The Legislature passed SB 357 last year, but Senator Wiener held the bill at the Senate desk, delaying its transmittal to the Governor.

SACRAMENTO – As California braces for another challenging wildfire season, legislation advanced today from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that would enhance wildfire prevention through implementation of a $20 million prescribed fire claims fund.
