Senator Wiener’s Mental Health Workforce Legislation Passes Assembly Health Committee Unanimously

SACRAMENTO - Today, Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 964, the Behavioral Health Workforce Revitalization Act, passed the Assembly Health Committee in a unanimous, bipartisan vote. It will now be heard in the Assembly Higher Education Committee.

SB 964 increases California’s investment in its behavioral health workforce to retain workers, increase the size of the behavioral health workforce, and support behavioral health workers who are facing a significant increase in demand for services.

SAN DIEGO – Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) is recognizing Zero8Hundred, an organization whose mission is to ease the transition from military into civilian life, as the 2022 Nonprofit of the Year for the 39th Senate District.

The San Diego region is home to one of the largest concentrations of military in the nation, with over 111,000 active duty service members and 245,000 veterans. More than 16,000 service members transition out of active duty each year, and over a third of them stay in the San Diego area.

Renters' energy efficiency disclosure form bill passes Assembly Judiciary Committee

SACRAMENTO — As Californians in search of rental housing are hampered by a tight market and soaring prices, Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) is seeking to make sure they are not caught unaware of the often hidden costs that result from energy inefficient apartments and appliances.  Wieckowski’s SB 1026 was approved today by the Assembly Judiciary Committee.

Under SB 1026, before they sign a lease, renters would be able to review an energy efficiency disclosure form to give them a more comprehensive idea of their potential monthly energy expenses.

Assembly Judiciary approves Wieckowski bill to increase protection of workers' wages from garnishment

SACRAMENTO — Senator Bob Wieckowski’s bill to provide improved protection of the wages earned by California living wage workers from garnishment by collectors was approved today by the Assembly Judiciary Committee and now heads to the Assembly floor. The bill, SB 1477, has widespread support among a huge coalition of organizations working to help low income and middle class Californians who were hit hard during the pandemic and are now confronting rising costs from inflation and supply shortages.
