(Sacramento, CA) --  In a gathering Tuesday of over 200 Alzheimer’s advocates representing the entire state of California, Senator Ben Allen (D-Santa Monica) was presented with the 2016 Legislator of the Year award by his constituent in the 26th Senate District, Elizabeth Gelfand Stearns, a former local and national board member of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Senator Roth’s Proposal Protecting Law Enforcement Injured in the Line of Duty Approved by State Assembly Committee

(Sacramento, CA) -- Senator Richard D. Roth’s (D-Riverside) proposal to protect peace officers and firefighters catastrophically injured in the line of duty has been approved by the Assembly Insurance Committee on a bipartisan vote of 10-0.

Senate Bill 897 provides an extension of workers’ compensation benefits to peace officers and firefighters, providing an additional year of healing time for those who are catastrophically injured in the line of duty.

Legislation to Establish Care and Safety Standards at Pet Boarding Facilities Passes Assembly Committee

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, the Assembly Committee on Business and Professions passed out Senate Bill (SB) 945, to establish minimum standards of care and safety at pet boarding facilities.  The bill was introduced by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) and provides pet boarding operators with clear guidance about the health and safety standards needed at their facilities.

SACRAMENTO– Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) was honored Friday by residents of the Veterans’ Home in Yountville for her work to reverse a 2009-10 budget action that resulted in non-veteran spouses having to pay up to 90 percent of their income to live with their husband or wife at a state veterans’ home.

SACRAMENTO– Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) was honored Friday by residents of the Veterans’ Home in Yountville for her work to reverse a 2009-10 budget action that resulted in non-veteran spouses having to pay up to 90 percent of their income to live with their husband or wife at a state veterans’ home.
Wolk’s Senate Bill 1440, which took effect in 2015, allowed non-veteran spouses to pay the same fees and charges as their veteran spouse to live at one of the state’s veterans’ homes.
