Sacramento – Following fallout from the Orange County oil spill, Senate Bill 433 by Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica) was signed by Governor Newsom which will give the Coastal Commission the ability to assess penalties for natural resources impacts for responsible parties.

Sacramento – Environmentally friendly mass transit projects will soon be eligible for an expedited approval process in Los Angeles County. Senate Bill 44, by Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica), will allow zero-emission mass transit projects to be considered for expedited California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) review. Governor Newsom signed the measure into law on Thursday.

Sacramento - Today, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 73, legislation authored by Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) to end mandatory minimum prison and jail sentences for nonviolent drug offenses. It will become law on January 1, 2021.

SACRAMENTO – California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed into law a number of measures to advance the state’s climate and clean energy efforts, including legislation by Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) that expands the state’s Energy Savings Assistance (ESA) program to ensure more of California’s low-income families benefit from free energy efficiency upgrades to their home.

Huntington Beach, CA — California State Senators Dave Min (Irvine) and Josh Newman (Fullerton), who represent roughly half of Orange County, sent a letter earlier today to Orange County’s federal legislative representatives asking them to lead a legislative effort to end all offshore drilling in federal waters off the coast of California, including drilling performed under current leases.

SACRAMENTO – With wildfires threatening new rounds of public safety power shutoffs across California, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, to help local governments pay the cost of running emergency operations centers during the planned power outages.

Senator Bob Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys), along with Assemblymembers Adrin Nazarian (D-Sherman Oaks) and Jesse Gabriel (D-Woodland Hills), celebrated California’s $5.7 million 2021 budget allocation to expand Jewish Family Service LA’s SOVA Community Food & Resource Program (JFS SOVA) in Van Nuys on Thursday.
