It is with great honor that I invite you to my State of the 10th Senate District Address and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, October 28th. Today, California Governor Newsom signed AB 1171 that modernizes California’s spousal rape law. A strong coalition of woman’s justice advocates and reform minded prosecutors joined bill author and Chair of Legislative Woman’s Caucus Assemblymember Cristina Garcia (D- Bell Gardens) and principal co-author Senator Dave Cortese (D-San Jose) in celebrating the signature.

SACRAMENTO – Amid another season of devastating wildfires, Gov. Gavin Newsom today signed legislation from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that will help prevent future loss of life and property by expanding the use of prescribed burning to control combustible fuels.

MUSEUM OF TOLERANCE, LOS ANGELES - Governor Newsom announced today a historic $40 million investment to combat rising anti-Semitism and other acts of hate, with a particular emphasis on the public school system, in light of new evidence showing a lack of knowledge about the Holocaust and other recent genocides among California students.  

SACRAMENTO — Today Governor Gavin Newsom signed the Better & Equitable Sentencing Through Thoughtful (BESTT) Practices Act 2.0, an important justice reform bill by Senator Josh Becker.

Today the Governor has signed SB 383 authored by Senator Dave Cortese (D-Silicon Valley) which will increase access to diversion programs for youth that commit non-violent felonies with an aim of shifting the focus of our justice system from incarceration to rehabilitation.

Governor Newsom Signs Senator Laird’s Legislation to Improve the EDD

SACRAMENTO, CA – Governor Gavin Newsom today signed a bill by Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) that will help the most vulnerable cancer patients obtain life-saving cancer medications.

Senate Bill 310 creates a cancer medication donation program by establishing a registration program for the collection and distribution of unused cancer medications under the Cancer Medication Recycling Act.

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today signed Senate Bill 294, a bill by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) to create parity between educators and other public employees by removing the 12-year service credit that can be earned by an educator.

Huntington Beach, CA — Senator Dave Min announced that he would be introducing legislation in the next legislative session that would end all drilling in California state waters, including under existing leases. This legislation, which comes in response to the Orange County Oil Spill just off the coast of Huntington Beach, comes one day after Senator Min called for a ban on all drilling in federal waters off the coast of California.
