SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) released the following statement today regarding Governor Gavin Newsom signing into law SB 245, the Abortion Accessibility Act:

SACRAMENTO – Legislation advanced today from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, to ease congestion along Highway 37 and protect it from sea-level rise by authorizing a toll to pay for critical improvements and by tapping roughly $2 billion in federal infrastructure funding.

SACRAMENTO - Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Senate Bill 1106, the Fresh Start Act, passed the Senate Public Safety Committee by a vote of 4-1. It will now be heard by the full Senate. SB 1106 helps people clear their criminal records by ensuring outstanding restitution and restitution fines are not a barrier to expungement. Currently, people across California are frequently denied record sealing and expungement because they are poor and cannot afford to pay outstanding restitution and restitution fines.

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 1079, a measure introduced by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) to allow cities to monitor noise pollution by using sound activated devices, passed the Senate Transportation Committee today.  Streets for All, a nonprofit organization that advocates for street safety, is a sponsor of the measure.

Sacramento, Calif. – On March 22, 2022, Senator Lena A. Gonzalez’s (D-Long Beach) SB 245 the Abortion Accessibility Act was signed into law by Governor Newsom. SB 245 will remove cost-barriers to abortion by requiring all state-licensed health care service plans to cover abortion services without a co-payment, deductible, or any type of cost-sharing.

SACRAMENTO – With the threat of a destructive wildfire season looming, legislation advanced today from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that would enhance wildfire prevention in California through implementation of a $20 million prescribed fire claims fund.

SACRAMENTO – Today, the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Water passed SB 1027, legislation by Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) that would expand the jurisdiction of the San Diego River Conservancy (SDRC) to include the entire San Diego River watershed. The bill passed with a bipartisan 8-0 vote.

SACRAMENTO: Senator Anna M. Caballero (D-Merced) introduced SB1308 which would clarify and strengthen California’s Buy American policy by requiring all California public schools, colleges and universities to purchase agricultural products grown, packaged or processed domestically, unless the price of the foreign product is more than twenty-five percent lower than a domestic product. SB1308 would improve the quality and safety of public school, college and university meal and nutrition programs, protect California jobs, and support California’s agricultural industry.

Senate Majority Leader Emeritus Bob Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys) joined taxpayers Friday to call on the Los Angeles County Assessor to immediately release thousands of claims filed under Proposition 19.
