With a stroke of a pen, Acting Governor Eleni Kounalakis signed Senator Josh Becker’s Senate Bill 504 into law today to ensure equal access to voter registration for overseas military personnel and people living with disabilities.The legislation was the first to be signed by Acting Governor Kounalakis and the first bill by Senator Becker to become law in 2022. “I’m so honored for Acting Governor Kounalakis to sign my voter access and equity legislation into law,” said Senator Becker, D-Menlo Park.

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 1177, introduced by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) which seeks to create an affordable housing regional trust between the cities of Burbank, Glendale, and Pasadena and SB 1067, which restricts parking minimums in cities, passed the Senate Governance and Finance Committee.

Senator Dave Cortese (D-Silicon Valley) made the following statement after the California Senate passed AB 2179 which extends portions of the COVID-19 Rental Housing Recovery Act to provide court eviction protections until June 30 to tenants with a pending rental assistance application submitted by March 31 and provide eviction protections for anyone who has a pending application by March 31:

Atkins (D-San Diego), has reappointed Ramon Rubalcava to the Board of Administration for the Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) concurred in this joint appointment.

SACRAMENTO, CA – In a unanimous and bipartisan vote, the Senate Health Committee passed a bill today by Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) creating a $50 million research fund that will make California a leader in the fight against childhood cancer.

SACRAMENTO – Today, the Senate Rules Committee, chaired by Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), appointed Captain Jesse Conner to the Paramedic Disciplinary Review Board. Captain Conner will serve as the Rules Committee’s appointment for a field paramedic with at least five years of experience as an Advanced Life Support provider.
