Senator Umberg’s New Law to Overhaul Questionable State Bar Attorney Mental Health Review Signed by Governor

Senate Bill 544 (SB 544) authored by Senator Tom Umberg (D – Santa Ana) was signed into law today by California Governor Gavin Newsom. The law will prohibit the State Bar from asking applicants to sign a medical waiver for a mental health history evaluation.

SACRAMENTO – Dr. Richard Pan, a pediatrician and state senator from the Sacramento region and the Sacramento Meals Collaborative will host a final pop-up event at the Arcade Library on Friday, July 26 at 10 a.m.  The Sacramento Meals Collaborative is a large coalition of groups and elected officials that includes No Kid Hungry California, the United Way, the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District, local school districts and Sacramento Public libraries.

California’s Lieutenant Governor, Controller, Treasurer, and Insurance Commissioner Endorse Senator Wiener’s SB 50

San Francisco –  Today, California’s Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Controller Betty Yee, Treasurer Fiona Ma, and Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara announced their support of Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 50. SB 50 eliminates hyper-low-density zoning near transit and job centers, thus legalizing apartment buildings and affordable housing in these locations so that more people can live near transit and near where they work. It also reduces or eliminates minimum parking requirements for new developments.

Senator Bob Archuleta Secures $4.4 Million for Upgrades to the Whittier Library

NORWALK CA – California State Senator Archuleta has secured $4.4 million needed for the city of Whittier’s multi-million dollar modernization library project. The money is part of the $214.8-billion budget, the largest in the state’s history, signed Thursday by Governor Gavin Newsom.

“I worked with the Governor and my colleagues in the Senate and Assembly to bring vital resources to improve the quality of life for those who work and live in District 32,” Archuleta said.
