Senator Wiener’s Statement on Next Steps for California Net Neutrality Bill

Sacramento – Today Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement about the next steps for Senate Bill 822, his bill to restore Obama-era net neutrality protections in California. The bill is scheduled for a hearing in the Assembly Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee today. Last week, the Assembly Communications and Conveyance Committee made amendments that gutted key provisions of SB 822 over Senator Wiener’s objections:

Wieckowski bill to expand recycled content requirements to all California beverage containers passes Assembly committee

SACRAMENTO – Senator Bob Wieckowski’s (D-Fremont) bill to direct the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) to establish minimum levels of recycled content for use in the manufacture of all beverage containers by 2021 was approved today by the Assembly Natural Resources Committee.

SB 168 is a bipartisan bill co-authored by Senator Jeff Stone (R-Riverside County) and supported by recycling businesses and environmental organizations.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) released this statement on the shooting of two Long Beach firefighters and a civilian today at a senior care facility. Fire Captain David Rosa, a 17-year veteran of the department, died.

“We are still learning about what happened today at the Covenant Manor apartments in Long Beach. But what we know is that we lost Captain David Rosa, a 17-year veteran of the department. He leaves a family in mourning and a community in shock.

Legislators Introduce Comprehensive Consumer Privacy Bill

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, joined with Sen. Bob Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, and Assemblymember Ed Chau, D-Monterey Park, to introduce legislation Friday to address concerns about data breach security and internet privacy experienced by California consumers.

“This is a solid step toward empowering consumers, ensuring they have control over their data and are informed about how it is being used,” said Senator Bill Dodd, D-Napa. “It also gives them recourse in the event of future breaches, providing a strong incentive for firms to act responsibly.”
