Sacramento, California – Today, Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge) welcomed and honored Luke Walker and his family as the Small Business of the Year at the California State Capitol.  Each year, one business from each Senate District is recognized by the California Small Business Association.  Senator Portantino chose Luke Walker’s Barber Shop & Beauty Care shop from Pasadena as this year’s small business of the year. 

SACRAMENTO –Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins today recognized San Diego-based i.d.e.a. as Small Business of the Year in the 39th District

FREMONT – Regan Nursery, which has been in operation for more than 60 years, providing a selection of flowers and gardening tips for local residents was recognized today as the Small Business of the Year by Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) at a ceremony in Sacramento.

SACRAMENTO – Dr. Richard Pan, a pediatrician and state senator representing the Sacramento region, recognized Sharie Wilson, the owner of DreamGirls Fine Hair Imports by naming her Elk Grove hair salon as the Senate District 6 Small Business of the Year, in conjunction with the California Small Business Association.

Sacramento, California- Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D-La Cañada Flintridge) is the Chair of the Senate Education Budget Sub-Committee with long and close ties to the Armenian American Community. In that capacity, he personally submitted two important education proposals on behalf of Armenian Californians into the California State Budget.

Sacramento, CA – Senator Mike McGuire released the following statement regarding the Trump Administration’s immigration policy separating children from their families:

“The Trump administration’s heartless and expanded policy of separating children from families arriving at the border is cruel, inhumane and indecent, even by Trump standards.

SACRAMENTO – Several environmental justice organizations spoke in support of legislation by Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) today to ensure that local air quality standards are met and a study is undertaken to prioritize the eventual retirement of natural gas facilities impacting the air quality of disadvantaged communities. The Assembly Natural Resources Committee approved Wieckowski’s legislation, SB 64, to help California transition to more renewable energy.
