Senate Judiciary Committee approves Wieckowski HOA bill

SACRAMENTO – A bill by state Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) to strengthen the election process in California’s 52,000 homeowner associations (HOA) by making sure all homeowners have a vote, passed the Senate Judiciary Committee this afternoon and now heads to the Senate floor for approval.

Sacramento, CA – California Fire Chiefs, firefighters from across the state, local elected officials and community leaders will join Senator Mike McGuire, Senator Bill Dodd and state legislators to urge the state to increase funding to protect our communities from the rising threats of natural disasters in “California’s New Normal.” The funding would be invested in California's severely strained firefighting mutual aid and dispatch systems for both local fire departments and CalFire.

Once again this year, I am pleased to be leading a drive to provide hundreds of pairs of new socks (and underwear) for our military veterans in San Diego County who are experiencing homelessness.

San Diego's 31st Annual Stand Down will take place June 29th through July 1st. The event, sponsored by Veterans Village of San Diego, gives homeless veterans a chance to rest for several days in a welcoming environment, along with others who have shared experiences. Charitable organizations are on hand to provide comprehensive services to help participants with their various needs.

Sacramento, CA – A measure to help expedite infrastructure projects and save taxpayers money by creating efficiencies, passed the Senate Appropriations Committee today. Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton) authored Senate Bill (SB) 1262, which will help achieve some of the original mandates of Senate Bill 1, to save taxpayer money on infrastructure projects and use that savings to invest in further maintenance and rehabilitation of our States roadways.

Senator Hueso Announces $2.5 Million Grant for New Geothermal Project

Imperial Valley, CA – May 4, 2018 – Senator Ben Hueso (D-Imperial County) today announced a $2.5 million grant for a new geothermal project by EnergySource Minerals, LLC titled “Well to Wheels Lithium Design” located in Imperial Valley. The project will greatly benefit the local economy and community, and may create a domestic source of lithium and other minerals to help meet California’s growing demand for electric grid stabilization and electric vehicle components.

Exoneree justice bill passes Senate passes bill to support for innocent released from California prison

SACRAMENTO – Today the California Senate passed Senate Bill 1050 by a unanimous 38-0 vote to extend services and support for exonerated people released from prison after their wrongful convictions are overturned.

SB 1050 is one of five bills in the #EquityAndJustice2018 package carried jointly by Sens. Holly Mitchell (D-Los Angeles) and Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) as follow-up measures to their initial #EquityAndJustice bills last year.
