Senator Leyva, Assemblymember Chiu, Advocates Demand All Rape Kits Be Tested

SACRAMENTO – On Tuesday, May 15th at 11am, Senator Connie M. Leyva and Assemblymember David Chiu—along with a broad coalition of supporters—will hold a press conference to discuss the importance of passing legislation to ensure that all rape kits in California are tested promptly.  SB 1449 requires that newly collected rape kits be submitted within 20 days and tested no later than 120 days after receipt and AB 3118 requires a statewide audit of California’s current rape kit backlog.

California Announces Intent to Sue Federal Government for Failure to Contain Cross-Border Pollution at the Tijuana River Valley

San Diego, CA – May 14, 2018 – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra today announced that the State has issued a 60-day notice of intent to sue the US Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission (USIBWC) for violations of the Clean Water Act. The decision comes after Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) called upon the Governor and Attorney General to enter into a lawsuit against the USIBWC for its failure to adequately address cross-border pollution at the Tijuana River Valley.
