Senate Passes Leyva Bill Banning Secret Settlements in Sexual Assault and Harassment Cases

SACRAMENTO – With bipartisan support, the California State Senate today approved legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will ban the use of secret settlements related to specified sexual misconduct, including sexual assault and sexual harassment.

Co-sponsored by the Consumer Attorneys of California and the California Women’s Law Center, SB 820—also known as the STAND (Stand Together Against Non-Disclosures) Act—will specifically ban secret settlements (non-disclosure agreements) in cases of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and sex discrimination.

Senator Wiener & Assemblymember Ting join Students, Legislators, Community Leaders to Announce New Bill to Prevent Gun Shows at the Cow Palace in Daly City

Daly City –  Today Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) joined students, elected officials, and gun violence prevention advocates to announce a new effort to ban gun and ammunition sales at the Cow Palace, a state-owned venue located in Daly City. The Cow Palace hosts gun shows a few times a year, most recently in April of this year. At that event, a group of high school students protested the gun show in hopes of ending gun sales in their community.

Release: Senator Hernandez to Give Commencement Address to Inaugural Class of Pharmacy Graduates

CLOVIS, Calif. – California Health Sciences University in Clovis will host their first College of Pharmacy Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, May 19, 2018.

These 62 students will be the first ever Doctor of Pharmacy graduates from a program offered in the Central Valley.

“Our first graduation marks a major historical milestone for our University,” said Florence Dunn, President of CHSU. “We are honored to celebrate the addition of 62 new pharmacists into the health care profession, many of whom will serve our local region.”

Senate budget subcommittee approves Cap & Trade Expenditure Plan

SACRAMENTO – The Senate budget subcommittee that oversees California’s programs to fight climate change approved a $2.8 billion Cap and Trade Expenditure Plan this afternoon with the largest blocks of money going to local air districts to reduce air pollution, forest health and fire prevention, freight and heavy duty vehicle incentives and clean vehicle rebates.  The proposal now goes before the full Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee.

State Senate Approves Skinner’s “Craft Distiller Op-pour-tunity” Act

Today, State Senator Nancy Skinner’s (D-Berkeley) SB 1164, the “Craft Distiller Op-pour-tunity” Act, passed the State Senate with bipartisan support. The Craft Distiller Op-pour-tunity Act would modify existing regulations to give California’s small batch craft distillers more leeway to produce and sell their spirits.

California State Legislature Passes Plan to Establish Water Efficiency Standards

State Senate Approves Senator Skinner’s Bill to Boost Student Housing

Today, the California State Senate on a bipartisan vote passed Senator Nancy Skinner’s (D-Berkeley) Senate Bill 1227, aimed at making it easier to build much needed student housing. Dubbed “Housing Our Students,” SB 1227 would change state housing law to encourage the construction of housing for students enrolled in California colleges and universities and ensure that affordable student units are included in that housing.
