California Senate Proposes Health4All Undocumented Immigrant Elders

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today the Senate Budget Sub-Committee on Health and Human Services approved extending health coverage to all seniors living in poverty, regardless of their immigration status. The Health4All Elders proposal would fund comprehensive Medi-Cal coverage for those over age 65, including preventive care and regular doctor visits.

Health4All Elders will be included in the Senate funding package that representatives of the Senate, Assembly and Governor’s Office will negotiate before the June 15 budget deadline.

Governor Brown Signs Bill to Protect Immigrants Testifying in Court

Sacramento –  Today, Governor Jerry Brown signed Senate Bill 785, which protects immigrants from irrelevant disclosures of their immigration status in open court. SB 785 was authored by Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher (D-San Diego), and was approved with bipartisan support by both the Senate and the Assembly. As an urgency measure it required 2/3 approval by the Legislature, and it takes effect immediately.

Senate passes Wieckowski bill to require mediation consumers to be informed about confidentiality restrictions

SACRAMENTO – The California State Senate passed a bill today by State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) to require attorneys to inform their clients of all the confidentiality restrictions related to mediation and obtain written disclosure that the clients understand the process. SB 954 now goes to the Assembly for consideration.
