Senate District 29 is awarded $87.7 Million in Grants for 57-60 Confluence and Route 57 Lambert Road Interchange Projects

Brea/Diamond Bar, CA– On Wednesday, the California Transportation Commission announced that a total of $87.7 million in Trade Corridor Enhancement Program grants was awarded to Senate District 29 for two critical infrastructure improvement projects. Diamond Bar was awarded $22 million to provide relief for the Route 57-60 confluence and Brea was awarded $65.7 million for improvements to the Route 57 Lambert Road Interchange.

Building on Senator Skinner and Beall’s SB 912, the $5 billion would be spent over a four-year period to fund permanent affordable housing, rent assistance, as well as supportive services and temporary shelter for California’s homeless.

California State Auditor to Review Local Jail Spending on Immigration Detention

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) requested the California State Auditor investigate revenues and spending of local public funds on detention of immigrants during a hearing of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee.

The Committee voted to approve the audit request.

SACRAMENTO – The California Senate today approved another moderate reform rooted in evidence-based policy and sensible cost-effective approaches to criminal justice.

Specifically, Senate Bill 1393, the Fair and Just Sentencing Reform Act, would eliminate automatic penalties that have contributed to the state’s mass incarceration crisis and failed ‘tough on crime’ policies by returning discretion in sentencing of serious felonies to judges.
