(SACRAMENTO) – Today, Senator Richard D. Roth presented a pilot program that will help to alleviate a severe shortage of mental and behavioral health services in Inland Southern California.

Psychiatrists are in very short supply in Inland Southern California, which is a fast-growing, racially and ethnically diverse region of nearly 4.4 million people. Riverside County has roughly five psychiatrists per 100,000 people compared to the statewide average of roughly 14 psychiatrists.

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Jim Beall’s legislation to restore crucial mortgage and foreclosure protections that expired at the start of this year was passed today by the Senate and now moves to the Assembly.

Senate Bill 818 proposes to renew key consumer safeguards in the California Homeowner’s Bill of Rights, protections that were adopted in the aftermath of the 2008 recession that contributed to 800,000 homes entering foreclosure. The bill gave borrowers immediate help and protection in the event of inaction by their lenders.

Senator Dodd Offers Mare Island Cemetery Resolution

SACRAMENTO – Senator Bill Dodd, D-Napa, introduced a resolution Wednesday supporting federal legislation from U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, to transfer the Mare Island Naval Cemetery to the Department of Veterans Affairs for repair and maintenance.

California Legislature Passes Bill to Stop Irrelevant Disclosures of Immigration Status in Open Court with Bipartisan Support

Sacramento –  Today the California State Senate finally passed Senate Bill 785 -- a bill by Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher (D-San Diego) to protect immigrants from irrelevant disclosures of their immigration status in open court. The bill passed in Senate by a vote of 31-6 with both Democrats and Republicans in support. SB 785 previously passed the Assembly on Monday with bipartisan vote of 67-1.
