(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Tomorrow, the State of California will recognize the first annual California Wildlife Day to celebrate the state’s diverse and unique ecosystem.  This month, the Legislature unanimously passed Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR) 23 by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) to establish California Wildlife Day every year on the Spring Equinox, which, in 2017, falls on the 20th of March.

SACRAMENTO- Following an unprecedented step by the Trump Administration to weaken federal vehicle fuel efficiency standards, California State Senate Democrats have written a letter to California Attorney General Xavier Becerra offering strong support for decisive legal action to intervene on the state’s behalf.

Leyva (D-Chino) has introduced legislation to expand medical abortion services on University of California (UC), California State University (CSU) and community college campuses.

Sacramento, CA – Doctors we trust safeguarding our children’s health add their support to Senate Bill 328.  Introduced at the beginning of this year by Senator Portantino, SB 328 seeks to move high school and middle school start times later in the morning.   The American Academy of Pediatrics, California (AAP-CA), representing over 5,000 California pediatricians, strongly supports SB 328, which will require that the school day for middle and high schools start no earlier than 8:30 a.m.

State Senator Jerry Hill will introduce legislation to close a loophole in state law that allows even young children to wed because there is no minimum age requirement for marriage. His bill would prohibit individuals younger than 18 from marrying.

SACRAMENTO – Legislation by Sen. Bob Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, to stop schools from publicly shaming or embarrassing students by either denying them lunch or providing a snack instead because their parents haven’t paid lunch fees passed the Senate Education Committee today.
SB 250 ensures that school officials do not delay or deny food to hungry students as punishment for unpaid school meal fees, and it directs schools to establish a process for notifying their families about unpaid fees and collecting them.

Senator Richard D. Roth’s (D-Riverside) proposal to restore lost funding to Riverside County’s four newest cities passed the Senate Committee on Governance and Finance today on a bipartisan, unanimous vote of 7-0.
