SACRAMENTO – California has long embraced policies and programs that protect and expand access to comprehensive reproductive health care. As a result, health outcomes have improved, public dollars have been saved, and teen birth and abortion rates in our state are at their lowest in decades.

Sacramento –  Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) will have nine bills in Senate Committee hearings on Tuesday (3/28) and Wednesday (3/29). These bills include efforts to allow cities to extend alcohol service hours to 4 AM, to modernize HIV criminalization laws, to protect California waterways from tar sands oil spills, and to require presidential candidates to release federal tax returns to appear on the California ballot.

Sacramento – Senator Mike McGuire (D-Healdsburg) and Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) have been appointed co-chairs on the Senate Select Committee on California’s Wine Industry. The committee is made up of a bipartisan group of Senators from around the state who are charged with overseeing the diverse issues affecting California’s wine industry.

SACRAMENTO – Senate President Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement Monday in response to United States Attorney Jeff Session’s announcement to withhold Department of Justice grant dollars from “sanctuary cities.”

“The announcement today by Attorney General Jeff Sessions is nothing short of blackmail. When it comes to immigrants and sanctuary counties and cities, the Attorney General and the President are stuck on alternative facts.

Honor highlights ‘outstanding contributions’  

LOS ANGELES – The Greater Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce late last night presented Sen. Holly J. Mitchell with its annual Public Service Award in recognition of her efforts to help small businesses in California’s largest city.

Today the California State Senate passed a resolution authored by Senators Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Bill Dodd (D-Napa) calling for the United States Congress to form a bipartisan, independent commission to investigate any connections between President Donald Trump and Russia. This includes appointing a special prosecutor to investigate any connection between President Trump’s administration, presidential campaign, or his business empire, and the Russian government or related business interests.
