WHAT:  Senate Elections and Constitutional Amendments Committee Informational Hearing

Community members are invited to attend and participate in the first in a series of official hearings to help shape policies to improve civic engagement and youth voter turnout in California.

SACRAMENTO—Assemblymember Evan Low (D-Silicon Valley), Chair of the California Assembly Elections and Redistricting Committee, introduced an amendment to the state constitution today that would lower the voting age from 18 to 17 in California. Assembly Constitutional Amendment (ACA) 10 is co-authored by a bipartisan group of California Millennial Caucus members.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, the California Assembly passed Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR) 23, by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), to establish California Wildlife Day in the state.

Today Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) announced growing bipartisan support for the LOCAL Act – which will allow (but not require) local communities to extend alcohol service hours in bars and restaurants up to 4 AM. Joining Senator Wiener as legislative co-authors are Assemblymember Matt Dababneh (D-Encino), Senator Joel Anderson (R-San Diego), Senator Ben Allen (D- Santa Monica), Assemblymember Jay Obernolte (R-Hesperia), and Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles).

Sacramento, CA – Senator Mike McGuire who has been a champion for passing a comprehensive fix to California’s crumbling transportation infrastructure, chaired the Senate Governance and Finance Committee hearing today that gave final Senate committee approval for a $6 billion transportation funding plan that is now heading to the Senate floor for a full vote.
