SACRAMENTO – The California chapter of a nationwide mental-health group has named Sen. Holly J. Mitchell its Legislator of the Year.

The award by the National Alliance on Mental Illness California, an affiliate of the country’s largest mental health advocacy organization dedicated to bettering the lives of those living with mental illness, took place during the group’s Statewide Annual Conference in Newport Beach.

Sept. 12, 2017: Senate committee to vote early Wednesday on earmarking $30 million to help DACA residents

SACRAMENTO – In an effort to remove the cloud of uncertainty that hangs over the heads of thousands of young Californians, a key Senate committee is expected to vote tomorrow on a $30 million emergency plan to provide them legal and financial assistance.

The Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee, chaired by Sen. Holly J. Mitchell, will vote on the plan, a combined effort by Gov. Brown’s office and the leadership of both houses, to aid residents here under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

SACRAMENTO – Less than one day after the Assembly voted in favor, the Senate today approved and sent to Gov. Brown a plan to end unreasonable fees on families of incarcerated children.   

“For far too long, poor children and children of color are more likely to become victims of the juvenile justice system,” Sen. Holly J. Mitchell said about Senate Bill 190, one of several bills in the #EquityAndJustice package by Mitchell and Sen. Ricardo Lara.
