SACRAMENTO – Sen. Holly J. Mitchell will hold a press conference tomorrow, April 23, to announce a slate of bills promoting economic and health justice.

At about the same time, the Senate Public Safety Committee on Tuesday will consider Senate Bill 144, a key bill in an eight-measure package Mitchell calls #EconomicJustice. She has a companion package of three bills she calls #HealthJustice.

SACRAMENTO – The Senate is expected to vote as soon as this afternoon, Monday, April 22, 2019 during its 2 p.m. session on Senate Bill 188 ‘The Crown Act,’ introduced by Sen. Holly J. Mitchell to end decades of racial discrimination based on hairstyles.  

To date, there is no legal precedent in state or federal court to protect individuals against hair discrimination.

The CROWN Act would ‘Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair’

SACRAMENTO –The Senate Judiciary Committee today passed a bill by Sen. Holly J. Mitchell, D-Los Angeles, to end a centuries-long history of racial discrimination based on hairstyles.

Senate Bill 188 amends the Fair Employment and Housing Act to prohibit employers from enforcing purportedly “race neutral” grooming policies that disproportionately impact persons of color.

SACRAMENTO –The Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 will begin consideration of a new bill introduced by Sen. Holly J. Mitchell, D-Los Angeles, to end decades of racial discrimination based on hairstyles.

The hearing is expected to begin at 1:30 p.m. in Room 112 of the Capitol.
