Sacramento, CA - State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) announced today that his budget request to create and fund a regional affordable housing trust between the cities of Pasadena, Burbank, and Glendale was approved.  The 2022-2023 State Budget will allocate $23 million to help finance affordable housing projects in the three cities through the joint powers authority (JPA) outlined in Senator Portantino’s SB 1177.

Sacramento, California – Senate Bill 485, a measure authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Canada Flintridge) that extends the sunset date for the film and television production tax credit program for five years, passed the Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee today.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bills 941, 1302, 1255, and 1016, authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge), passed the Assembly Education Committee. SB 941 seeks to address teacher shortages and improve learning environments, while student wellness takes center stage in SB 1302. SB 1255 would reduce waste in schools through a dishwasher program and SB 1016 enhances special education services for individuals with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

Sacramento, CA - Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) released the following statement tonight regarding today’s historic action by the California Transportation Commission to approve relinquishment of the 710 northern stub to the City of Pasadena.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bills 974 and 987, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) which address the delay and absence of live-saving treatments for cancer patients, passed the Assembly Health Committee.  SB 974 expands health care coverage for diagnostic breast imaging following an abnormal mammography and SB 987 aims to address significant disparities in cancer patient access by expanding Medi-Cal patient eligibility for necessary clinical expertise and resources.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill 230, an environmental protection measure authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) to improve drinking water by investigating Constituents of Emerging Concern (CECs), passed the Assembly Environmental and Toxic Materials Committee.  Constituents of Emerging Concern are a diverse group of synthetic or naturally occurring chemicals or microorganisms that are not currently regulated in drinking water.

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 870, a measure authored by Senators Anthony J. Portantino and Scott Wilk, seeks to increases the “age of onset” definition of a developmental disability to twenty-two.  In addition, it expands supportive services and programs for those 18-21 who are developmentally disabled.  Today, it passed the Assembly Human Services Committee.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill 918, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) which strengthens California’s conceal-carry laws, passed the Assembly Public Safety Committee today. 

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 932, authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) to prioritize pedestrian and cyclist safety, passed the Assembly Transportation Committee.  The bill requires California cities to take concrete steps to reduce traffic collisions and fatalities and has garnered an impressive list of supporters, including Streets For All, ActiveSGV, CalBike, and Streets Are For Everyone.
