Sacramento, CA - Senate Bills 906 and 1327 – two gun safety and reform measures - passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee today.  SB 906, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge), prioritizes student and campus safety by promoting safe at-home storage of firearms and robust investigations of imminent violent school threats.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill 851 authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) strengthens and expands financial support for low-income college students at independent, nonprofit California colleges and universities, passed the Assembly Higher Education. 

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bills 1207 and 883 passed the Assembly Health Committee.  SB 1205 is authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) and would improve maternal mental health support by providing women with outreach services, education and access to mental health treatment.  SB 883, jointly authored by Senator Portantino and Senator Roth, extends the sunset date on the Umbilical Cord Blood Collection Program (UCBCP) for an additional five years. 

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 1136, a measure authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) to clarify and streamline the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) process to help meet climate goals, passed the Assembly Natural Resources Committee. 

Sacramento, CA – State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) is pleased to announce that  11 key gun safety measures passed the Senate Appropriations Committee.  

Sacramento, CA – Senate Constitutional Amendment 10 ensures that the fundamental right to choose to have an abortion and to use contraception is protected in California. Today, it passed the Senate Appropriation Committee. SCA 10 was introduced by Senate Pro Tem Atkins and Assembly Speaker Rendon earlier this month. Senator Portantino, a Principal Co-author, presented the measure in the Senate Appropriations Committee on behalf of the legislative coalition.
