Sacramento, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) issued the following statement today regarding California’s efforts to curb gun violence:

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 932, a measure introduced by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) to prioritize pedestrian and cyclist safety, passed the Senate Floor today.  The bill would require California cities to take concrete steps to reduce traffic collisions and fatalities and has garnered an impressive list of supporters, including Streets For All, ActiveSGV, CalBike, and Streets Are For Everyone.   

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 1067, introduced by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) would restrict parking minimums within close proximity to public transit.  Today, it passed the Senate Floor.  The bill is aimed at reducing California’s dependence on cars, provide more incentives for walking and bicycling, and help counteract housing affordability problems by cutting costs for tenants and developers.

Sacramento, CA – Today Senate Bill 1207, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) which would improve maternal mental health support by providing women with outreach services, education and access to mental health treatment, passed the Senate Floor.  

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 1136, a measure introduced by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) to clarify and streamline the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) process to help meet climate goals faster, passed the Senate Floor today. 

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill 987, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) which addresses significant disparities in cancer patient access by expanding Medi-Cal patient eligibility for necessary clinical expertise and resources, passed the Senate Floor today.  

Sacramento, California – Senate Bill 830, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) would increase funding for K-12 schools by $3.4 billion.  It is a prudent funding formula reform that would base school budgeting on enrollment rather than attendance.  

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 1327, a bill joint authored by Senate Majority Leader Emeritus Bob Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys) and Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) passed the Senate floor today.  SB 1327 is a major gun reform measure that offers a new tool to combat the rise in gun violence and save lives – a private right of action.  Governor Gavin Newsom is the official sponsor of the legislation.
