The Senate Public Safety Committee today, on a bipartisan, 6-1 vote, approved SB 1064, a bill by Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, that would eliminate the use of uncorroborated allegations from a confidential informant as evidence in a parole hearing.

Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, announced today Senate Bill 1122 to spur the use of “green hydrogen,” a clean, renewable energy source that can help California meet its clean energy and climate protection goals. Unlike most other renewable energy sources, green electrolytic hydrogen can be used in multiple ways: to fuel cars, big rig trucks, and jet airplanes, produce energy storage, and power industry and the electrical grid.

Sen. Nancy Skinner Introduces Bill to End Corporate Homes Being Left Vacant and Give Tenants, Cities Right of First Refusal

Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, introduced today Senate Bill 1079 to reduce the number of vacant homes in California and give tenants the right of first refusal to buy foreclosed properties. SB 1079 would also allow cities and counties to fine corporations that own multiple single-family homes for keeping housing vacant for more than 90 days and give local governments first rights on such vacant properties to use them for affordable housing.

Sen. Nancy Skinner Introduces Bill to Protect Live-Work Housing and Ensure Safety

Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, announced today Senate Bill 906, which is designed to protect existing live-work and warehouse spaces used for housing to ensure safety improvements are made without residents being displaced. SB 906 would allow cities to work cooperatively with property owners to make live-work and warehouse spaces and other types of housing safer.

Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, announced today Senate Bill 889, which would raise the age at which young people in California are automatically tried as adults to 20 years old. Under the bill, 18- and 19-year-olds would be treated as juveniles in criminal proceedings.
