Lawmakers Introduce Bail Reform Measure

Senate Majority Leader Bob Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys), Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-Oakland), and Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) introduced joint legislation on Wednesday designed to reform the state’s money bail system, and to address the disproportionate impacts on low-income and low-wealth residents. The new legislation, SB 262 in the Senate and AB 329 in the Assembly, would set bail at $0 for misdemeanors and low-level felonies in California.
