Senator Roth’s Measure Honoring Medal of Honor Recipients Approved on Bipartisan, Unanimous Vote

Senator Richard D. Roth’s (D-Riverside) measure to honor the lives and service of three local Medal of Honor recipients passed the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee today on a bipartisan, unanimous vote.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 38 designates the portion of State Highway Route 91 in Riverside from Madison Street to 3rd Street as the “Staff Sergeant Salvador J. Lara, Staff Sergeant Ysmael R. Villegas and Sergeant Jesus S. Duran Memorial Highway.”

Statement on Air Force’s KC-46 Base Decision

Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) issued the following statement on the US Air Force’s decision to not select March Air Reserve Base as a candidate base for the new KC-46 tanker aircraft:

“I am disappointed that the Air Force has failed to recognize the strategic importance of basing the new KC-46 tanker at March Air Reserve Base. March ARB is not only a critical component of the military’s air refueling mission, but also vitally important to our national security mission. I will continue to advocate for March ARB as the ideal location for the KC-46 tanker.”

Senator Roth to Host Law Enforcement Summit

Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) will host a Law Enforcement Summit in the City of Perris on Friday, January 23, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Panelists will include Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin, California Highway Patrol (Riverside Area) Captain Amanda Snowden, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shelley Kennedy-Smith and Perris Police Chief Michael Judge.

Panelists will discuss current law enforcement initiatives and provide public safety updates at the state, county and local levels.

Senator Roth Introduces Bill to Streamline, Modernize CEQA

January 16, 2015

Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) announced today that he has introduced a bill, jointly authored by Senators Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) and Jerry Hill (D-San Mateo), to streamline and modernize the environmental review process under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

Senate Bill 122 would make the environmental review process under CEQA more efficient while preserving informed environmental decision-making.

Senator Roth Introduces Bill to Fix California’s Judge Shortage

February 13, 2015

Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) introduced Senate Bill 229 today to help fix California’s judge shortage by funding 12 court judgeships across the State.

The Legislature previously authorized 50 additional judges to meet the shortage without directing any specific funds towards them.  Previous efforts by the Legislature to direct funding towards these positions have been unsuccessful.
