SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement regarding Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States:

SACRAMENTO - Today, two of Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) bills — SB 902 and SB 1138 — passed the Senate by votes of 33-3 and 30-8 respectively. The legislation now heads to the Assembly. These two bills — together and in combination with Senator Wiener’s SB 899 (which will be voted on later in the week) — will help alleviate California’s intertwined housing shortage and homelessness crisis.

SACRAMENTO - Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement upon learning that Harry Britt, a gay man and member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors who succeeded Harvey Milk, had passed away:

“Harry Britt was a pioneer in the LGBTQ community’s entry into electoral politics. He deeply understood that while our allies are essential, we must have our own seat at the table. Harry helped create political space for people like me to serve in elected office. Harry’s death is a tragedy. He will be missed.”

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement regarding COVID-19, its impact on California’s prison population, and the transfer of incarcerated individuals into ICE detention facilities. Sacramento - Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Senator Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) issued the following statement regarding their legislation, SB 939, which did not pass the Senate Judiciary Committee today. If passed, SB 939 would have enacted a moratorium on commercial evictions – for small businesses and nonprofits – during the COVID-19 State of Emergency.

Sacramento - Five of Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) bills were approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee and will be taken up for a vote by the full Senate

The bills must be approved through a Senate floor vote by Friday, June 26th, after which they will move to the Assembly.

SB 855 - Mental Health Coverage

San Francisco - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement regarding the fourth anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting that took place in Orlando, Florida.

Sacramento - Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) announced the introduction of Senate Bill 288, which expands CEQA statutory exemptions to streamline approval of sustainable transportation projects — public transportation, bike safety, and pedestrian projects — thus speeding up their approval in order to get them moving.

Sacramento - Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling that discrimination against LGTBQ workers is barred by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. This ruling is a defeat for the Trump administration, who claimed that this type of discrimination against LGTBQ individuals was not banned by the Civil Rights Act and was legal.
