Senator Wiener Condemns Racist Attacks on Chinese & Asian Communities Spurred by President Trump Calling COVID-19 the “Chinese Virus”

Sacramento - Today Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement regarding the uptick in racist attacks on Chinese Americans, Asian Americans, and other Asian people living in the United States. Since President Donald Trump has been calling COVID-19 the “Chinese virus,” our country has seen an increase in hate crimes against Chinese and Asian Americans.

Senator Wiener’s Statement Regarding Governor Newsom’s Plan to Lease Seton Medical Center

San Francisco - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement regarding Governor Newsom's speech tonight in which he indicated he plans to lease Seton Medical Center in Daly City:

“We got some good news tonight: Governor Newsom indicated that the State plans to lease Seton Medical Center in Daly City to help with the expected surge in hospitalizations due to COVID-19. Seton Medical Center’s prior owners, Verity Health, had announced earlier in March that they planned to close the facility.

Senators Wiener and Gonzalez Introduce Legislation to Halt Commercial Evictions for the Duration of the COVID-19 Emergency

Sacramento - Today, Senators Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) introduced SB 939, which places a moratorium on commercial evictions, including small businesses and nonprofits, for the duration of the COVID-19 health emergency. In Light of National Blood Bank Shortage Due to COVID-19, Senator Wiener Calls on FDA to Allow LGBTQ+ People to Donate Blood
