SACRAMENTO – Gov. Brown today signed into law a bill to help foster youth transition into adulthood by improving their safety net of resources, peers and family.

“This new law will put into practice what we’ve learned over the past several years about the best way to help foster youth transition out of the foster-care system into adulthood,” Sen.  Holly J. Mitchell, D-Los Angeles, said about her Senate Bill 612.

Governor Brown Signs Bill Incentivizing Child Support Compliance to Combat Poverty

SACRAMENTO ­– Today, Governor Brown signed Senate Bill 380, which modifies the California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) program to allow a family to choose whether or not to request CalWORKs aid for a step or half-sibling of an aided child, when the step or half-sibling receives child support payments from a non-custodial parent.

Governor Signs Bill to Return Greater Local Control to School Districts

SACRAMENTO – School districts will have a greater ability to manage their own fiscal affairs under a bill that Gov. Jerry Brown signed today.

The bill, SB 751, jointly authored by Sen. Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo and Sen. Steve Glazer, D-Orinda, eliminates the reserve cap for most small school districts and substantially reduces reserve fund obligations for large school districts.

A greater number of California small businesses will be eligible to participate in the state’s small business contracting program under a new law authored by State Senator Cathleen Galgiani.  Approved yesterday by Governor Jerry Brown, Senate Bill 605 increases the annual income limit from $10 million dollars to a much higher $36 million dollars for small businesses bidding on public works projects.  For all other state contracts for goods and services, the revenue limit was statutorily increased from $10 million to $15 million dollars for small businesses and from $2.5 mil
