SACRAMENTO— Senator Mike McGuire issued the following statement in response to Governor Newsom’s January budget proposal released earlier today:

Sacramento, CA – Senator Bob Archuleta, an 82nd Airborne veteran, will continue to lead California’s efforts on behalf of military service members, veterans and their families, as the new legislative session has convened.
He will again serve as Chair of the Senate Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs, where he consistently advanced policies supporting veterans, active-duty personnel, and military communities statewide.

Senate Bill 729, authored by Senator Caroline Menjivar, which requires state regulated large employer health insurance to cover the diagnosis and treatment of infertility, including IVF, goes into effect for contracts issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2026.

EUREKA, CA—Senator McGuire’s 10th annual Humboldt Holiday Food Drive made history yesterday by rallying the community for its biggest day of giving yet, delivering a monumental day of generosity for Food for People, Humboldt County’s food bank. The record-breaking event brought in 23.5 tons of food along with a WHOPPING $63,000 in financial donations, all headed directly to support hungry families across Humboldt County.

SACRAMENTO – Across the state, women in rural communities face a growing healthcare crisis due to the lack of maternity care options. Senate President pro Tempore Mike McGuire’s (D-North Coast) bill, SB 669, to increase access to perinatal care in rural communities through a first-of-its-kind pilot project, was signed by Governor Newsom last week.
