Legislation to Bring Transparency to Gubernatorial Appointments Vetoed by Governor

(SACRAMENTO) – On Sunday, legislation to bring transparency to Governor appointed State Board and Commission seats was vetoed by Governor Gavin Newsom. SB 782, authored by Senator Monique Limón, is a priority for the bipartisan California Legislative Women’s Caucus, LGBTQ Caucus, California Latino Legislative Caucus, and the California Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus. For four years, similar legislation has received bipartisan, unanimous support from both houses.

Senator Limón’s Legislation to Expand the Use of Beneficial Fire Signed into Law

(SACRAMENTO) - On Friday night, Senator Monique Limón’s legislation to expand the use of beneficial fire was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom. SB 1101 passed out of the California State Legislature with bipartisan, unanimous support. As California continues to see prolonged and worsening fire seasons, beneficial fire will help to cut down excess fire fuels.

Authored by Senator Bob Archuleta (D-Pico Rivera) and championed by Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, SB 1336 will allow LA County to use vacant buildings on the state’s Metropolitan State Hospital campus to develop a mental healthcare village to provide housing and treatment to individuals struggling with mental illness.
