SACRAMENTO, California – July 31, 2025 – Governor Gavin Newsom has signed into law Senate Bill 652, authored by State Senator Laura Richardson (D–South Bay), marking a significant step forward in strengthening public safety standards across California.

Three bills by Senator Christopher Cabaldon to improve access to higher education in California passed Assembly committees Tuesday on their journey to becoming law. The bills passed Tuesday expand the ability of California universities to offer online courses to students in other states, establish automatic admission to the California State University system, and protect the accreditation of California schools.

SACRAMENTO, California – (June 30, 2025) – Governor Newsom has officially signed California’s 2025–26 state budget, a landmark $321 billion package that includes critical investments across the state, among them, a significant boost to nutritional assistance.

Cabaldon said. "It’s time to let go of this fantasy and move on to solutions that don’t harm the Delta and have a realistic chance of being built.”

The state budget package passed by the Legislature Monday evening and headed to the governor for his signature reforms the California Environmental Quality Act to make it easier to build climate-friendly infill housing and essential facilities like childcare centers, farmworker housing, parks, food banks, and health clinics. “These are the most important infill housing reforms the Legislature has ever contemplated,” said Senator Christopher Cabaldon, D-Yolo, said of one of the bills, AB 130. “This bill makes it clear that we are going to open the door for substantial investments in housing.”

As proposed the Sacramento Area Housing and Homelessness Agency will centralize services through a Joint Powers Authority designed to coordinate, fund, and implement all housing and homelessness programs across Sacramento County.
