SACRAMENTO —State Senator Dr. Aisha Wahab’s (D-Silicon Valley) comprehensive package of policies and over $1.4 billion in housing investments were signed by Governor Gavin Newsom.

Establishing a state budget that invests in the people, programs, and policies that strengthen California remained my priority. This year’s budget closes a significant shortfall. It reflects difficult choices made due in large part to the chaos emanating from Washington, D.C., while striving to address ongoing challenges, such as homelessness, climate change, and threats facing all of our communities.

The state budget package passed by the Legislature Monday evening and headed to the governor for his signature reforms the California Environmental Quality Act to make it easier to build climate-friendly infill housing and essential facilities like childcare centers, farmworker housing, parks, food banks, and health clinics. “These are the most important infill housing reforms the Legislature has ever contemplated,” said Senator Christopher Cabaldon, D-Yolo, said of one of the bills, AB 130. “This bill makes it clear that we are going to open the door for substantial investments in housing.”

SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Angelique Ashby (D-Sacramento) through Senate Bill 802 has proposed the establishment of a new regional agency to address the persistent challenges of housing and homelessness throughout Sacramento County. As proposed the Sacramento Area Housing and Homelessness Agency will centralize services through a Joint Powers Authority designed to coordinate, fund, and implement all housing and homelessness programs across Sacramento County.

SB 259, The Fair Online Pricing Act, prohibits companies from charging consumers different prices online based on their smartphone or computer such as device type, browsing history, or location—putting a stop to digital price discrimination that harms everyday Californians.

On Wednesday, the Joint Legislative Audit Committee (JLAC) approved by a bipartisan vote an audit request by Senator Sabrina Cervantes (D-Riverside) of the Riverside Unified School District (RUSD) STEM Education Center (STEM Center). The California State Auditor will now proceed with the months-long audit.

SB 257 protects access to maternity care by banning health insurers from discriminating against surrogates and by making pregnancy a qualifying life event for enrolling in health insurance.
