Galgiani Legislation Targeting Dangerous Synthetic Drugs Clears Key Senate Panel

Sacramento— In Tuesday’s Senate Public Safety Committee hearing Senator Cathleen Galgiani (D-Stockton) presented Senate Bill 139, which will aide law enforcement in the protection of our communities from synthetic drugs. In a follow-up to her previous legislation from 2014 which created the penalty structure for the possession of a synthetic drug, Galgiani is pursuing SB 139 in order to assist with the enforcement of the law.

SACRMENTO – The Senate will vote Thursday on a resolution by Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León that calls on the Legislature, Governor, and the Obama Administration to consider the policy implications of the Papal encyclical on climate change. Bishop Jaime Soto of the Diocese of Sacramento will open Thursday’s Senate floor session with “A Prayer for the Earth,” an invocation taken directly from the encyclical.

"Safe Drinking Water in Schools Act" Clears Final Assembly Policy Committee

SACRAMENTO – Important legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that would require testing of drinking water for lead at schools in California to ensure water quality and safety passed from the Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials Committee earlier today with strong bipartisan support.  
SB 334 would also require that—at schools where water is found to be unsafe—schools districts must provide their students and school populations with clean drinking water.
