Sacramento-The State Senate gave final approval to SB 212 authored by Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia) on a unanimous bipartisan vote of 36 to 0. The bill will address the proliferation of Butane Hash Oil (BHO) and methamphetamine manufacturing in residential neighborhoods by making it an aggravated felony to manufacture the drugs within close proximity to occupied residences and structures. The bill now goes to Governor Brown for his consideration.

SACRAMENTO – The Senate today approved a resolution by Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) that urges the Legislature, Governor Brown, and the Obama Administration to consider the policy implications of the recently released Papal encyclical.

Sacramento – A bill to restore public trust and accountability in government by strengthening California’s conflict of interest laws was approved today by the Assembly Committee on Elections and Redistricting and the Assembly Committee on Local Government on bipartisan votes.

SACRAMENTO – Assembly Speaker Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) and Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement regarding a package of six bills introduced for consideration during the Extraordinary Session on Health Care:

“Tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the United States, and treating tobacco-related illnesses costs California taxpayers billions of dollars. We applaud our members for taking on this public-health crisis for the people of California.”

(SACRAMENTO, CA)  - Today, Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) introduced Senate Bill (SB) 6 as part of the Second Extraordinary Session to address indoor workplace environments in California where people may be exposed to secondhand smoke.  The measure is part of a six bill package aimed at reducing tobacco use in the state.

SB 2X-5, Authored by Senator Leno, Prohibits Smoking of E-Cigarettes at Workplaces, Schools, Restaurants and Hospitals

SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, Governor Jerry Brown signed important legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will ensure that all victims of crimes committed by minors are eligible to receive due compensation.
Cosponsored by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and Crime Victims Action Alliance, SB 651 would expand the statutory definition of a ‘victim’ so that derivative victims—such as spouses, family members and housemates—will be eligible for compensation as a result of a crime committed against them by a minor.      

Senator Richard D. Roth’s (D-Riverside) proposal to honor the lives and service of three local Medal of Honor recipients passed the California State Assembly on a bipartisan vote of 79-0.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 38 designates the portion of State Highway Route 91 in Riverside from Madison Street to 3rd Street as the “Staff Sergeant Salvador J. Lara, Staff Sergeant Ysmael R. Villegas and Sergeant Jesus S. Duran Memorial Highway.”
