Bill to Improve Voting Materials Headed to Governor

August 17, 2015

Sacramento - The State Assembly today approved SB 505 authored by Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia). The bill will ensure that California’s Voter Bill of Rights and other election materials are provided to voters in plain, accessible and easily understandable language. SB 505 now goes to Governor Jerry Brown for his consideration.

Los Angeles, CA – State Senator Ben Allen and Assemblymembers Adrin Nazarian and Richard Bloom joined officials from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) as well as key regional transit advocates to call for over $900 million annually for critically needed public transit funding in California.  Hundreds of millions of dollars would flow to L.A. County to help expand public transit options and maintain the existing transit system in a state of good repair.

Sacramento – Dr. Richard Pan, a State Senator representing Sacramento, announced today that the Governor has signed Senate Bill 424 which will give college and university police departments the authority to use “pretext phone calls” or recording devices like body-worn cameras during their investigations into serious crimes such as sexual assault, robbery, burglary, arson, theft and murder.

Governor signs Sen. Holly J. Mitchell bill to exempt all minors from open court criminal testimony

August 10, 2015

Sacramento — A measure to spare child witnesses from being required to give testimony in open court in criminal cases, has been signed into law by the Governor. As passed by the Legislature, with an effective date of the beginning of 2016, the bill extends to any potential witness aged 13 or younger, the same protection available under law to those child witnesses who cannot be required to testify in open court if they have been a victim of the crime under adjudication.

Governor signs Wolk legislation to keep olive oil labeling truthful

SACRAMENTO – Late Friday the Governor signed into law Senate Bill 65, legislation by Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) changing an outdated labeling law that enabled olive oils to say they were produced in California, or a region of California.
