Sacramento – Governor Jerry Brown today signed SB 432 by Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia), Chair of the Senate Labor and Industrial Relations Committee. The bill modernizes outdated law by deleting the term “alien” from the California Labor Code, as a definition for an immigrant individual. The new law goes into effect on January 1, 2016.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – On Friday, Governor Jerry Brown signed Senate Bill (SB) 165, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), which expands existing civil fines for environmental damage created during the cultivation of controlled substances in order to address the devastation to the ecosystem caused by illegal marijuana grow-sites.

Sacramento - SB 212 authored by Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia) was signed by Governor Jerry Brown today. The bill addresses the proliferation of Butane Hash Oil (BHO) and methamphetamine manufacturing in residential neighborhoods by making it an aggravated felony to manufacture the drugs within close proximity to occupied residences and structures. The new law will go into effect on January 1, 2016.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, Governor Jerry Brown signed Senate Bill 17, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), which extends the sunset date for the California Sea Otter Fund by five years and will continue to give California taxpayers the option of supporting the Fund.

Governor Signs Bill Allowing BART to Increase Use of Renewable Energy
SACRAMENTO – Governor Jerry Brown today signed legislation authored by Senator Mark Leno that would allow the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) to increase its use of renewable energy. Senate Bill 502 allows the regional passenger rail system to purchase wholesale electricity directly from renewable energy sources, enabling BART to reduce the carbon footprint of hundreds of thousands of Bay Area commuters.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) today issued the following statement in response to the recent news that the City of Los Angeles has tentatively agreed to transfer ownership of the LA/Ontario International Airport back to the City of Ontario:
“I am supportive of the local control effort to transfer the Ontario Airport back to the City of Ontario and commend Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and the City of Ontario for working collaboratively toward the recent progress that prioritizes the needs of our local airport and residents.”

SACRAMENTO – Californians from all parts of the state call global warming a threat and support existing and proposed state government efforts to curb emissions of all types of pollution. Climate change is happening now and already is affecting California’s economy and quality of life, said 62% of the people who responded to a new poll by the Public Policy Institute of California. Slightly more believe there’s a link between global warming and the four-year, severe drought.
