SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) reintroduced important legislation that will ensure access to medication abortion services on California public university campuses for students who seek to terminate their pregnancy during the first ten weeks. 

SACRAMENTO – As firefighters continue to bravely fight wildfires across California, the Legislature today approved bipartisan legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will improve efforts to protect and support firefighters, their health, and their ability to combat wildfires.   SB 774 will improve knowledge of strategies to minimize and mitigate health and safety risks experienced by firefighters in the wildland urban interface (WUI), areas where human development and housing meet undeveloped wildland vegetation.

Leyva (D-Chino) requiring that law enforcement agencies and forensic laboratories promptly analyze and test all newly collected rape kit evidence in California advanced today to the Governor for consideration.

SACRAMENTO – While the federal government focuses on dismantling California’s significant efforts to fight climate change, Governor Jerry Brown signed a measure authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that reinforces the state’s commitment to empower underserved communities to participate in climate change mitigation programs and achieve tangible success towards healthier, more resilient communities.

SACRAMENTO – Governor Jerry Brown signed legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will help Covered California continue to serve over 1.5 million California residents during this era of federal uncertainty.

SB 1245 will allow Covered California to have emergency rulemaking authority for nearly all of its regulatory packages until January 1, 2022.  This legislation will also ensure that there will be enough time for the public to review and comment on the proposed regulations ahead of them being adopted by the Covered California Board of Directors.

Leyva (D-Chino) that will ban the use of secret settlements related to specified sexual misconduct, including sexual assault and sexual harassment.
