SACRAMENTO – Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) today released the following statement after the California State Senate passed the 2019-2020 state budget ahead of the June 15th constitutional deadline:

SACRAMENTO – During this volatile time when access to abortion and reproductive health care is threatened at both the national level and in states across our country, the Assembly Health Committee today approved legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will ensure access to medication abortion services on California public university campuses for students who seek to end their pregnancy up to 10 weeks.

SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, the Assembly Public Safety Committee passed critical legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) requiring that law enforcement agencies and forensic laboratories promptly analyze and test all newly collected rape kit evidence in California.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) today recognized Project Sister (Sisters In Service To End Rape) Family Services in Pomona as the 20th State Senate District “Nonprofit of the Year” for 2019.

SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, the California State Senate approved legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will establish ‘smog check’ requirements for heavy-duty diesel trucks in California. Unlike personal vehicles, current law does not require heavy-duty vehicles to have the same types of smog checks that have been required for passenger vehicles for decades.

SACRAMENTO – In order to address the quickly escalating total costs of attending community college, the California State Senate approved legislation earlier today that establishes the California Community College Student Financial Aid Program that would base financial aid on not only the cost of tuition, but rather on the total cost of attendance—including the cost of housing, transportation and textbooks.

SACRAMENTO – Without a single ‘No’ vote, the California State Senate passed legislation earlier today authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will require law enforcement agencies and forensic laboratories to promptly analyze and test all newly collected rape kit evidence in California.

SACRAMENTO – As other states continue to ban or severely restrict abortion, the California State Senate today approved the “College Student Right to Access Act” by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will ensure access to medication abortion on California public university campuses for students who seek to end their pregnancy during the first ten weeks.
