SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) issued the following statement after Governor Jerry Brown vetoed SB 1449:

SACRAMENTO – As firefighters continue to bravely fight wildfires across California, the Legislature today approved bipartisan legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will improve efforts to protect and support firefighters, their health, and their ability to combat wildfires.   SB 774 will improve knowledge of strategies to minimize and mitigate health and safety risks experienced by firefighters in the wildland urban interface (WUI), areas where human development and housing meet undeveloped wildland vegetation.

SACRAMENTO – Without a single ‘No’ vote in the Senate and Assembly, historic legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) requiring that law enforcement agencies and forensic laboratories promptly analyze and test all newly collected rape kit evidence in California advanced today to the Governor for consideration.

SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, the California State Senate approved legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will ensure access to medication abortion services on California public university campuses for students who seek to terminate their pregnancy during the first ten weeks.

SACRAMENTO – The California State Senate today approved SB 1288—a measure that will protect patient safety and reinforce nurse staffing ratio requirements—and sent this important bill to the Governor for consideration.

Leyva (D-Chino), legislation banning secret settlements (non-disclosure agreements) in cases of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and sex discrimination advanced to Governor Jerry Brown for consideration after earning bipartisan support in both houses of the Legislature.
