SACRAMENTO – As access to abortion and reproductive health care is under attack in states across our country, the California State Legislature gave final approval to legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will ensure access to medication abortion services on California public university campuses for students who seek to end their pregnancy up to 10 weeks.

SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, the California State Senate approved Senate Bill 210—a measure that will establish ‘smog check’ requirements for heavy-duty diesel trucks in California—and sent this important air quality bill to the Governor for his consideration. Unlike personal vehicles, current law does not require heavy-duty vehicles to have the same types of smog checks that have been required for passenger vehicles for decades.

SACRAMENTO – In a resounding show of support for survivors of rape and sexual assault, the California State Assembly passed legislation earlier today authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will require law enforcement agencies and forensic laboratories to promptly analyze and test all newly collected rape kit evidence in California.

SACRAMENTO – The California State Senate today passed important legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will protect patient safety and reinforce nurse staffing ratio requirements.  Following approval by the Legislature, Senate Bill 227 now heads to the Governor for consideration.

SACRAMENTO – After earning strong bipartisan support in the Senate and Assembly, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 508 authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will require insurers to provide timely disclosures and information to mobilehome and condominium residents regarding their residential property insurance policies and their rights associated with their policy.

SACRAMENTO – Legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) to improve accommodations for Californians with disabilities and survivors of domestic violence seeking public assistance benefits was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom.

SACRAMENTO – Legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will establish ‘smog check’ requirements for heavy-duty diesel trucks in California passed from the Assembly Natural Resources Committee.  Unlike how personal passenger vehicles have done for decades, current law does not require heavy-duty trucks to undergo regular smog checks.

SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, the Joint Legislative Audit Committee (JLAC) approved an audit request by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) to review the efficacy and ongoing issues related to the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s (HCD) Mobilehome Inspection Program.

SACRAMENTO – As other states and the federal government continue to threaten and even ban access to reproductive healthcare, the Assembly Higher Education Committee today passed the “College Student Right to Access Act” by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino).  This important legislation will ensure access to medication abortion on California public university campuses for students who seek to end their pregnancy during the first ten weeks.
