California Legislature is First in the US to Name Freeway For President Barack H. Obama

Sacramento, CA:  State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (DLa Cañada Flintridge) is proud to announce that SJR 8, a Senate Joint Resolution to name a portion of the 134 freeway in Los Angeles County the President Barack H. Obama Freeway, has passed both the State Senate and the State Assembly.  As a result, the 134 freeway from the 2 freeway to the 210 Freeway interchange will be named in honor of our 44th President.

The Commission was established in 2006 through legislation. It is tasked with creating an International Genocide Memorial in the Historic Region of the State Capitol.

Portantino, Leyva & Rodriguez Request Funds for Gold Line Foothill Extension From Cap and Trade Greenhouse Gas Reduction Funds

Sacramento, CA – State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge), along with State Senator Connie M. Leyva and Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez, jointly sent a letter requesting that $280 million of the Cap and Trade Greenhouse Gas Reduction Funds (GGRF) be allocated for the Gold Line Foothill Extension project.  The funds would aid the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority’s efforts to bring the light rail project to the San Bernardino County community of Montclair.

Portantino Tours Armenian/English LAUSD Dual Language Program in SD25

Tujunga, CA:  Today, State Senator Anthony J. Portantino toured Mountain View Elementary School on its first day of instruction for the 2017-2018 school year. The tour included a profile of the first Armenian/English dual language program of Los Angeles Unified School District in SD25. The program was created at Mountain View Elementary School in 2016, providing students with a bilingual education and teaching them about the Armenian culture.

Portantino Urges Reconsideration of Advertising Decision in Wake of Billboard Prohibition for Genocide Documentary
