Senator Portantino’s Korean Driver’s License Passes Key Policy Committee

Sacramento, California – Today, the Senate Committee on Transportation and Housing voted to pass SB 1360. The bill,  authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino, D – La Cañada Flintridge, allows a person with a driver’s license from the Republic of Korea to be exempt from specific testing requirements when applying for a California driver’s license.

Sacramento, California- Today, both houses of the California State Legislature passed resolutions recognizing the Armenian Genocide and urged Washington to follow California’s lead. SB 832: California Film Industry Tax Credit Extension Passes Finance Committee

Sacramento, California – Today, SB 832 authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) and joint authored by Senator Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles) and other members of the Senate passed the Senate Governance and Finance Committee. The bill proposes to extend and improve the current California Film and Television Tax Credit Program. Sacramento, California – Today, the Senate Public Safety Committee passed SB 1100 authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino, D – La Cañada Flintridge.  SB 1100 prohibits a person from making more than one firearm purchase within a 30-day period in California and increases the age requirement for purchasing all firearms to 21 years.

Senator Portantino believes that the district should not invest in an environmentally insensitive groundwater mining project.

Senator Portantino’s Student Suicide Prevention Bill Passes Senate Education Committee

March 14, 2018

Sacramento, California – Today SB 972, the Student Suicide Prevention Bill, passed the State Senate Education Committee with bipartisan support. SB 972 which would require public, charter, and private schools to print a suicide prevention hotline number and/or text crisis lines on the back of student’s identification cards. The measure would be required for grades seven through twelve and all higher education institutions.
