Senator Portantino’s 2018 Legislative Recap 15 Bills Signed Into Law

Sacramento, California – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge) closed out the 2018 legislative session with a string of legislative successes and budget accomplishments.  He sent 18 bills to Governor Brown for action, having 15 signed into law.  As the Chair of Education Budget Sub-Committee 1 on Education Finance, he also achieved significant success through the adoption of the 2018-2019 State Budget. In addition, he authored 4 Resolutions that passed and were chaptered into the legislative record.

Senator Portantino Holds San Gabriel Valley HIV/AIDS Action Summit at City of Hope Hospital

Duarte, California – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge) will hold his 10th Annual San Gabriel Valley HIV/AIDS Action Summit to promote Public Health Policy Advocacy and better educate the public about HIV/AIDS three decades after the virus was first identified. The event will include world renowned HIV/AIDS experts, government officials, community groups and student participation in discussions regarding the present status and a vision for the future of the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Portantino Sends Two Gun Control Bills to the Governor – Continues His Leadership on Gun Safety Issues

Sacramento, CA- As the legislative session comes to a close, SB 1100 and SB 1177  authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge) passed both the Senate and Assembly and are headed to the Governor’s desk. The actions further establish Portantino’s legacy as one of California’s leaders for sensible gun control.  SB 1100 raises the age for all gun purchases to 21 after the recent tragedy at Stoneman Douglas High School.  SB 1177 prohibits the purchase of more than one long gun a month.

Senator Portantino’s Arroyo Seco Tributary Bill Passes the California Legislature and Awaits the Governor’s Signature

Sacramento, California – The California State Legislature has voted to pass SB 1126 authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge). The bill will include the Arroyo Seco Tributary into the Upper Los Angeles River and Tributaries Working Group. SB 1126 contains an urgency clause which would make it effective on the day it garners a signature from Governor Brown.  Non-urgency bills do not become law until January 1st.

Senator Portantino’s Suicide Prevention Legislation Heads to the Governor

Sacramento, California- SB 972 the suicide prevention legislation which is authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge) passed the California State Legislature and is headed to the Governor’s Desk for his signature.  SB 972 requires public, charter, and private schools to print the National Suicide Prevention Hotline telephone number on all student identification cards for grades seven through college.
