Eureka, CA — As Senator McGuire’s third annual Humboldt Holiday Food Drive hits the home stretch, six local high schools in Humboldt County are making the final push to bring in thousands of pounds of donated non-perishable food to feed Humboldt County residents in need.

Tax returns, which are signed under penalty of perjury, would reveal the kinds of financial entanglements that lead to such serious conflicts of interest.

San Francisco –  Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) announced Senate Bill 48, which aims to ensure that homeless individuals and families throughout California have reasonable access to shelter, including navigation centers.  The bill is currently in “intent form,” which means the detailed policy will be developed over the coming months.  Senator Wiener plans to convene stakeholders to help craft policy that will create a “right to shelter” for unhoused residents throughout the state.

State Senator Jerry Hill introduced legislation today to ensure that California’s tax break on inherited residential property benefits only individuals who live in the home left to them by parents or grandparents. Joining him in introducing SCA 3 were Assemblymember Rob Bonta, D-Oakland, as principal coauthor and Assemblymembers Laura Friedman, D-Glendale, Mike A. Gipson, D-Carson, and Bill Quirk, D-Hayward, as coauthors.

San Francisco –  Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) announced the introduction of Senate Bill 50: the More HOMES Act (Housing, Opportunity, Mobility, Equity, and Stability). SB 50 creates new zoning standards for the construction of housing near job centers and public transportation, while protecting against the displacement of renters and vulnerable communities living in those areas.
