SACRAMENTO – In response to an expected U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe. Vs. Wade, Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, announced today he would join forces with other California leaders to enshrine women’s reproductive rights in California's Constitution.

“Clearly, the court is pursuing dangerous policy, undoing decades of precedent, and putting the lives of millions of women at risk,” Sen. Dodd said.  “In California, we will continue to defend a woman’s right to choose as well as access to health care by building a protective firewall in our state constitution.”

Senator Wiener’s Legislation to Continue Protecting Undocumented Immigrants in Court, SB 836, Passes Senate

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Senate Bill 836 passed the Senate by a vote of 28-0. It will head to the Assembly for policy committee hearings. This legislation will extend the safeguards from SB 785 (Wiener, 2018), which protected a person’s immigration status in a public court record, unless the presiding judge determined that immigration status was relevant information. This legislation had a sunset date of January 1, 2022, so it has now expired.
