(SACRAMENTO, CA)  - The joint authors of California’s End of Life Option Act, Assemblymember Susan Talamantes Eggman (D-Stockton) and Senators Bill Monning (D-Carmel) and Lois Wolk (D-Davis), released the following statement on the enactment of the End of Life Option Act today: 

“Today is a historic day for Californians who are terminally ill and want an additional option to those that previously existed.  The End of Life Option Act is now law and available to terminally ill Californians.

A measure authored by Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica) and Senator Mark Leno (D – San Francisco) urging California’s Congressional representatives to work to overturn the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission decision will appear on the November 2016 ballot. 

Sacramento – Starting today, you now have to be 21 to purchase tobacco products in California. With the enactment of Senate Bill x2 7 by Senator Ed Hernandez, O.D. (D-West Covina), California continues the fight against Big Tobacco and a business model that relies on addicting our youth.

STATEMENT

Sen. Holly J. Mitchell questions Jasmine Richards conviction on old “lynch” law

“On July 1 of last year, Governor Brown signed SB 629, a bill that I introduced  to delete the law’s use of the term ‘lynching’ to define the crime of unlawfully removing someone from police custody.

Sacramento, CA – Legislation authored by Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica) to

improve the mitigation of methane gas leaks from underground storage facilities passed the state Senate on a vote of 28—10 today.  SB 888 requires gas leak emissions to be fully mitigated and paid for through the fines and penalties assessed against the responsible gas company, not rate payer funds. It also will improve the state’s response to similar gas leaks in the future by designating the Office of Emergency Services as the lead point of contact for the government.

SACRAMENTO – Two bills by Senator Jim Beall designed to expand the ability of school districts to provide mental health services for students and strengthen state oversight of how funds for those services are spent were approved by the state Senate this week.

Senate Bill 884 was passed today on a 37-0 vote. A companion bill, SB 1113, was approved on a 39-0 vote on Tuesday. Both bills are now under consideration by the Assembly.
