Senator Hill, Assemblymember Salas Hold Hearing to Examine Gaps in Gas Pipeline & Excavation Safety

December 14, 2015

The California Senate Subcommittee on Gas, Electric and Transportation Safety, chaired by state Senator Jerry Hill, and the Assembly Accountability and Administrative Review Committee, chaired by Assemblymember Rudy Salas, will hold a joint oversight hearing, “Dangerous Digs: Why Do Fatal Pipeline Accidents Persist?” The hearing follows the fatal “dig-in” accident November 13, when one person died and two suffered severe burns just south of Bakersfield after a PG&E natural gas pipeline was struck and ruptured during a project to put in a new orchard.

I had the privilege of being part of the California delegation in Paris. The subnational governments, especially California, made a big difference with our 15 years of legislation that prove you can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and not only help clean up our air, but also create new jobs and businesses.

UPDATE: Bay Area Lawmakers Introduce Legislation To Boost California Tour Bus Inspection Program

State Senator Jerry Hill and Assemblymembers David Chiu and Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) announce today that they will introduce legislation to improve California’s tour bus inspection program and provide more bus inspection funding for the California Highway Patrol. The legislation will also require coordination between the Department of Motor Vehicles and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to identify unregistered buses.
