Leyva Bill Protecting Victims of Human Trafficking Passes Senate Committee

SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, important legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that would make victims of human trafficking eligible for the state’s Safe at Home confidential address program passed from the Senate Judiciary Committee with unanimous bipartisan support.  ‘Safe at Home’ services are currently offered to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking, as well as reproductive health care doctors, nurses, volunteers and patients.

Bill Ensuring Justice for ‘Sextortion’ Victims Passes Senate Public Safety Committee

SACRAMENTO – The Senate Public Safety Committee today passed legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that would criminalize sexual extortion (“sextortion”) and provide prosecutors with an important tool to combat this serious crime.

Passed with bipartisan support, Senate Bill 500 updates California’s outdated extortion laws to not only include the coercion of a victim to hand over money or property, but also coercion involving sexual acts and sexually explicit images.

Bill Protecting Schoolchildren from Sex Offenders Passes Education Committee

SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, the Senate Education Committee approved an important bill authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that seeks to protect school children from dangerous sex offenders.  Passed with strong bipartisan support, Senate Bill 26 would prohibit any registered sex offender from volunteering at K-12 schools and further restrict their access to school campuses in California.
