"Safe Drinking Water in Schools Act" Advances to Governor

SACRAMENTO – Legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) prohibiting schools from providing drinking water that does not meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s drinking water standards for lead passed its final hurdle in the Legislature today and now advances to Governor Jerry Brown for consideration.
SB 334 specifically requires that school districts take steps each school day to provide free, clean and safe drinking water on campus to students, teachers, employees and visitors.

Senator Leyva Supports Recent Progress on Ontario Airport Transfer

SACRAMENTO – Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) today issued the following statement in response to the recent news that the City of Los Angeles has tentatively agreed to transfer ownership of the LA/Ontario International Airport back to the City of Ontario:
“I am supportive of the local control effort to transfer the Ontario Airport back to the City of Ontario and commend Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and the City of Ontario for working collaboratively toward the recent progress that prioritizes the needs of our local airport and residents.”

Governor Brown Signs Leyva Victim Restitution Bill

SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, Governor Jerry Brown signed important legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will ensure that all victims of crimes committed by minors are eligible to receive due compensation.
Cosponsored by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and Crime Victims Action Alliance, SB 651 would expand the statutory definition of a ‘victim’ so that derivative victims—such as spouses, family members and housemates—will be eligible for compensation as a result of a crime committed against them by a minor.

"Safe Drinking Water in Schools Act" Clears Final Assembly Policy Committee

SACRAMENTO – Important legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that would require testing of drinking water for lead at schools in California to ensure water quality and safety passed from the Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials Committee earlier today with strong bipartisan support.  
SB 334 would also require that—at schools where water is found to be unsafe—schools districts must provide their students and school populations with clean drinking water.

Leyva Green Assistance Program Bill Passes Assembly Natural Resources Committee
